So, What is an Image?
Just like a desktop
pc, the Audrey runs on a core code base upon which applications
are built. In the PC world, some examples of
such core code bases are DOS, Windows, and Linux. Just like there
were different versions of Dos and Windows and Linux, there
are a couple of different versions of the core code as well
(Specifically 2). The real difference though is the configuration of
the interface or "shell" that the user interacts with and
the applications that are installed. An image is the "image" of the
code, files, configuration and applications generally taken as a
"snapshot" from a modified unit.
So, Which image is the best for me?
If you want to use the
Audrey for it's original intended purpose, the final OEM version is
probably for you. This image is stable and has the most
familiar interface amongst Audrey users.
However, if you want more, listed below are
the freely available images currently available and the associated
web sites which contain in depth information about the images.
What does an image get me?
Many small applications have
been written for the QNX os and/or the Audrey specifically.
Some of the trademark applications not on the
OEM release are:
- Caller ID
- MP3 Player
- Picture Frame
- Paint
